UPDATE: THIS SCENARIO WAS MODIFIED ON JANUARY 27TH, 2013.

Here is the second of six possible scenarios. Remember, these are still subject to change, and we will post six but only use four. We are looking for feedback, so if something doesn't play right, or you have questions, contact us and let us know!

Battle for Stones River 2013: Scenario Two

“Do not fail your Brothers. Though their bodies die, their spirit must return to the Chapter. That is your charge.”

The Battlefield
Use deployment map: Vanguard Strike (page 119) and setup any player owned fortifications. Players cannot move terrain to make room for fortifications. Place Primary Objectives. Players take turns placing D3+2 primary objectives, the 1st of which must be placed somewhere on the bridge. Objectives may not be placed within 12” of each other or any table edge. Roll to determine who places the 2nd objective.
Prior to deployment of forces, roll for Warlord Traits and Psychic Powers accordingly. Players roll off. The winner may choose to deploy 1st or 2nd. Player deploying 1st deploys their entire force except infiltrators and those units held in reserve. The player deploying 1st also takes 1st turn unless the opposing player can steal the initiative.

Victory Conditions
The mission is based on objective markers. The player with the most Victory points at the end of the game is the winner. The game length is variable, see page 122 of the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.

Primary Objective
Each primary objective is worth 3 victory points except the objective on the bridge which is worth 4 points.
Secondary Objectives
Players may gain an additional Victory point for completing the following: Slay the Warlord and First Blood.

Special Rules
Reserves, only units with the Deep Strike special rule may be held in reserve and must arrive using Deep Strike.

  1. So I guess flyers also can be started in reserve, but what about me necron flyers? They have the deep strike special rule, does that mean they HAVE to deep strike when entering?

  2. We have discussed it and it makes sense that flyers will enter play as normal. Hopefully this is helpful.

  3. what about troops that would normally start in a flyer , such as a vet squad in a vendetta would the troops have to start on the field because its not a dedicated transport?

  4. Yes, units can start the scenario already in their flyers. Hope this helps!
